On November 29, 2023, one of the most important conferences on cyber security in the medical sector took place, bringing together hundreds of participants from Poland and abroad. The conference, which annually attracts the attention of healthcare professionals, IT specialists, lawyers, and medical leaders, focused on key issues of medical data security, health information processing, and effective responses to cyber attacks.
During the conference, information was shared about the completion of the GDPR Industry Code in healthcare and its approval by the Personal Data Protection Office in the upcoming days. This is the first Code approved in the European Union for public and private medical facilities. KPMG will become the accredited monitor of the Code.
One of the main topics covered at the conference was cyber security in the medical sector. With the growing reliance on digital technology in medical practices, experts discussed effective methods for securing medical data and how to respond in the event of cyber attacks. Participants had a chance to hear a case study of a cyber attack on a medical facility and what lessons can be learned for the future through a presentation by the Director of the Polish Mother’s Memorial Health Center in Lodz, Prof. Iwona Maroszyńska, as well as learn practical tips and see relevant data on cyber security in the healthcare sector through a presentation by Roman Łożyński, Deputy Director for ICT Systems Operations and Security at the e-Health Center. The Conference also featured a foreign speaker – Oliver Slapal, Founder and CTO of Data Lake, who talked about the role of blockchain in consent management.
During the conference, attention was paid to issues related to secondary processing of medical data in the context of the European perspective, as well as Polish regulations on access to this information. The essence of compliance with regulations on secondary medical data processing in Europe, as well as specific regulations in force in Poland, were taken up in speeches delivered, among others, by representatives of: the Ministry of Digitization, the LUX MED company, the National Cardiology Institute and the Domański Zakrzewski Palinka law firm.
The 5th edition of the Cybersec & RODO in Health conference was not only an interesting event, but also a key reference for everyone involved in medical data protection. Expert speeches, international character and cooperation with leading industry players make this conference an extremely important event for all those who care about information security in the medical sector.
