Expanding the European EHRxF to share and effectively use health data within the EHDS

xShare envisions everyone sharing their health data in European Electronic Health Record Exchange Format (EEHRxF), with a click-of-a-button. The xShare Yellow Button will allow us to share our health data in the European Electronic Health Records Exchange Format (EHRxF) as noted in the upcoming European Health Data Space (EHDS) regulation.
The mission of xSHARE is to advance the position of Europe in global standards with the EU-xShare industry label supported by the European EHRxF Standards and Policy Hub for people to receive better and safer healthcare, health systems to be more resilient, and the European digital health Industry to be more competitive in the EHDS.

Project objectives:

• Creation of the European EHRxF Standards and Policy Hub to drive the harmonization, maturity, and maintenance of interoperability formats for sharing health data
• Demonstration of the benefit and value of the xShare Yellow Button supporting the right of individuals to data portability under GDPR data in continuity of care use cases
• Development of harmonized data formats starting from Business use cases using Health Information Domains listed in the EHDS draft regulation and aligning them across health care, population health, and clinical research
• Monitoring of the adoption of the EEHRxF in the member states and the European regions, and assessment of the impact of the European EHRxF Standards and Policy Hub, while identifying gaps and needs of additional Health Information Domains
• Capacity building in digital skills related to the use EEHRxF HIDs in Business service use cases including European Digital Identity and the digital Wallet, security & privacy, data quality, and EEHRxF procurement
• Liaison with initiatives and programs connected to the EHDS and the adoption of digital health technologies in the transformation of the health sector to help them develop EEHRxF capabilities
• Ensure the business viability of the European EHRxF Standards and Policy Hub in the context of the wider digital health ecosystem on an annual basis
• Proactive engagement of European EHRxF stakeholders and the industry with European Policy on interoperability to accelerate adoption of the EEHRxF for a competitive Europe
• Development and piloting of a testing and assurance scheme for EHR systems through an open call in EU member states and EFTA accession countries
• Exploration of the feasibility and business viability of an EU xShare label for the EHRxF
• Preparation for the global uptake of the EEHRxF in line with current IPS developments, by engaging in global harmonisation of the European EHRxF specifications with internationals standards
