To ensure innovation in healthcare technology moves in the right direction, HLTH Foundation has introduced two free, practical tools—the User Guide to Techquity in Healthcare and the Techquity for Health Database. Together, they provide healthcare and public health leaders with actionable guidance and real-world examples for embedding equity into digital health design, deployment, and data practices.
Why Techquity Matters
Digital health continues to transform how people access and experience care, and is accelerating with the adoption of artificial intelligence. Yet too often, technology reinforces the very inequities it aims to solve. In 2023, HLTH Foundation’s Techquity Benchmarking Survey revealed a key insight: while most healthcare leaders agree that digital health equity is essential, many still lack concrete guidance and examples to achieve it.
To help close that gap, HLTH Foundation convened an advisory group of equity experts, technologists, and healthcare leaders to create two resources that make techquity practical, measurable, and repeatable. The result is a foundation for change that moves beyond awareness to real-world application.
The User Guide to Techquity in Healthcare
The User Guide to Techquity in Healthcare serves as a first-of-its-kind set of recommendations for techquity practice—a roadmap for embedding equity across the full lifecycle of health technology. Developed through an analysis of case studies in equitable innovation of technology, tech-enabled health programs or data and informed by expert counsel, the guide offers tangible steps to help organizations design, implement, and purchase technology responsibly and inclusively.
