Revolutionizing Pilgrimage Healthcare: For the first time in Bangladesh, a bank is offering 24/7 digital healthcare services for Hajj pilgrims—powered by a partnership between Eastern Bank PLC (EBL) and Grameen Digital Healthcare Solutions through the ‘Shukhee’ mobile app.
This groundbreaking initiative sets a new benchmark for how financial institutions can support their customers beyond banking—especially during life-defining experiences like Hajj. It's a first-of-its-kind innovation in the Bangladeshi banking sector, merging faith, health, and technology to enhance safety and comfort for pilgrims.
Eastern Bank PLC (EBL) has partnered with Grameen Digital Healthcare Solutions to offer round-the-clock healthcare services to its customers performing Hajj this year, through the ‘Shukhee’ mobile application.
The digital healthcare services will be accessible via the Shukhee app, developed by Grameen Digital Healthcare Solutions. EBL will fully sponsor the subscription, enabling customers to receive essential medical support during their pilgrimage.
An agreement to this effect was signed at EBL’s head office in Dhaka on May 12.
According to EBL, this marks a first-of-its-kind initiative in Bangladesh’s banking sector, aimed at providing healthcare assistance during one of the most spiritually significant journeys in a Muslim’s life.
“This partnership reflects EBL’s ongoing commitment to enhancing customer experience and contributing meaningfully to the broader healthcare ecosystem in Bangladesh,” said Ali Reza Iftekhar, managing director and CEO of EBL.
The signing ceremony was attended by Ahmed Armaan Siddiqui, CEO, and Mohammad Solaimun Rasel, CTO and CBO of Grameen Digital Healthcare Solutions, Ali Reza Iftekhar, managing director and CEO of EBL, Ahmed Shaheen, additional managing director, Riad Mahmud Chowdhury, deputy managing director and head of corporate banking, and Md Jabedul Alam, head of transaction banking, corporate banking of EBL, among others.
