In the 21st century, health data has become the foundation of responsive, equitable, and efficient healthcare systems. Yet in LMICs such as Bangladesh, health information systems often remain fragmented, limiting data-driven decision-making and accountability. To bridge this gap, Grameen HealthTech Limited launched Shukhee in 2024—a hybrid digital health platform rooted in community access and inclusivity. By leveraging telemedicine, diagnostics, and pharmacy integration, Shukhee creates a continuous flow of health data that drives clinical, operational, and public health improvement.

The Shukhee Model—Where Community Meets Digital Innovation

The Shukhee Hybrid Healthcare Model, developed by Grameen HealthTech Limited, represents a new era in Bangladesh’s primary healthcare landscape. Designed as a social business model, Shukhee transforms over 5,000 local pharmacies into Shukhee Sheba Kendros (SSKs)—community-based digital health access points providing teleconsultations, diagnostics, and authentic medicines under one roof. Unlike conventional digital health ventures, Shukhee integrates technology with community participation. Every patient interaction—whether through teleconsultation, diagnostic booking, surgery referral, or prescription refill—generates structured health data, building a dynamic foundation for disease surveillance, operational efficiency, and inclusive health planning.

Shukhee’s strength lies in its dual mission: to ensure equitable access to quality healthcare and to create a sustainable data-driven ecosystem that informs both local and national health strategies. It embodies a “digital-first, community-anchored” model that other low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) can adapt to achieve universal health coverage (UHC).

 Health Data Performance Overview

In its first ten months (December 2024 to September 2025), Shukhee demonstrated remarkable growth, reflecting strong public demand and the effectiveness of data-informed governance. One of  the MBBS physicians on the platform handled more than  2,500 consultations, showing high efficiency and usability. The 93% satisfaction rate combined with 116% revenue achievement underscores that inclusive healthcare can also be economically viable. The platform reached 2.8 million app installations across Android and iOS, delivered 45,199 instant doctor consultations and 3,862 specialist consultations, and facilitated over 45,000 diagnostic bookings. Its paid user base grew to 1.75 million, enrolled through institutional partnerships and direct consumer access as well.

Key Indicator Performance (Dec–Sep 2025) Interpretation
App Installations 2.8 million Widespread adoption across Bangladesh
Instant Teleconsultations 45,199 Increased trust in virtual primary care
Specialist Consultations 3,862 Expanding access to specialist advice
Diagnostic Bookings 45,000+ Strengthened referral and test integration
Paid Users 1.75 million 68% institutional; 32% direct users
Customer Satisfaction 93% Reflects service quality and reliability
Revenue Achievement 116% Demonstrates financial sustainability

Disease Patterns and Health Data Insights

An analysis of more than 45,000 consultations and diagnostic records reveals a distinct epidemiological pattern emerging from the Shukhee platform. The most frequently reported conditions include dermatological diseases such as eczema, scabies, tinea, and allergic skin reactions; sexual health conditions related to erectile dysfunction and other taboo topics; as well as gastritis, urinary tract infections, hypertension, diabetes, asthma, diarrhea, and anxiety disorders. This data underscores Bangladesh’s dual burden of disease—where acute infectious conditions continue to coexist with an escalating prevalence of chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The consistent rise in cases of hypertension and diabetes signals an urgent need for structured, long-term management within the primary healthcare framework.

Equally notable is the steady increase in mental health and dermatological consultations, reflecting a growing public trust in digital health platforms for addressing sensitive or previously under-discussed issues. Shukhee’s proactive inclusion of specialists across multiple disciplines—Cardiology, Endocrinology, Nephrology, Dermatology, Venereal Diseases & others —illustrates its adaptive, data-informed design, ensuring that evolving health trends are met with timely, specialized care and integrated service delivery

Shukhee’s Data-Driven Approach to Strengthening Primary Healthcare

In many low- and middle-income countries, the lack of reliable health data limits effective health planning and governance. Shukhee’s integrated digital infrastructure addresses this gap by capturing and analyzing information from every patient interaction across its ecosystem. This real-time data enables evidence-based decision-making, early disease detection, and continuous monitoring of service quality and doctor performance. By using equity mapping, Shukhee identifies underserved communities, ensuring that care delivery remains inclusive and aligned with national goals such as Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and NCD prevention. The Shukhee model reinforces primary healthcare by uniting technology, data, and human resources within a single operational framework. Its nationwide Shukhee Sheba Kendro (SSK) network decentralizes care, bringing teleconsultations, diagnostics, and authentic medicines closer to communities. Through Remote Monitoring Devices (RMDs) for NCD and maternal health tracking, Shukhee promotes a preventive care culture supported by real-time data integration. This ecosystem exemplifies the WHO vision of people-centered, data-informed healthcare, where every patient encounter contributes to collective insight and system-wide resilience.

Conclusion:

Shukhee stands as a transformative example of how data, technology, and human connection can redefine primary healthcare in Bangladesh. By integrating real-time analytics, teleconsultations, diagnostics, and remote monitoring, it transforms each patient interaction into meaningful insight. This data-driven ecosystem not only improves clinical outcomes but also strengthens equity, accountability, and national health resilience. Through its community-rooted Sheba Kendros and digital innovation, Shukhee empowers citizens, supports policymakers, and bridges the gap between local care and global health standards. It embodies a new vision for the future—a smarter, more inclusive, and more preventive healthcare system powered by data and compassion.
