Connecting Women – Access to Care: The Growing Impact of Shukhee’s Hybrid Health Platform
In just 16 months, Shukhee delivered an impressive 116,722 doctor consultations, of which 43,745 consultations (37.48%) were accessed by women. These numbers reflect more than service utilization—they represent thousands of women overcoming barriers of distance, time, cost, and social stigma to access quality healthcare from their homes. The data reveal that telehealth has become both a trusted entry point for reproductive healthcare and a scalable primary-care solution for everyday health concerns. Women showed a strong preference for video consultations (91.18%), highlighting the value of visual clinical assessment and personalized interactions with physicians. The majority of female users belonged to their most economically and socially productive years, with 45.02% aged 22–35 years and 23.98% aged 36–49 years, together accounting for 69% of all female consultations. Geographically, utilization was highest in Dhaka Division (49.58%), followed by Chittagong (22.54%), demonstrating the growing acceptance of digital healthcare across diverse communities.

Strengthening Maternal Health Through Timely Care and Referral
Maternal healthcare was a key focus of the platform, with 4,910 pregnancy-related consultations (11.22% of female visits). Common symptoms included amenorrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, especially in early and late pregnancy stages. Among 8,428 specialist consultations, 1,528 (18.13%) were pregnancy-related, and nearly 31.12% of pregnancy cases required specialist input, highlighting effective triage and referral to higher-level care. Continuity of care was strengthened through follow-up support for 363 pregnant women and successful management of 27 emergency Caesarean sections, particularly in underserved districts such as Jamalpur and Sherpur. Clinically, 36.62% of female consultations required diagnostic investigations, reflecting complex case needs including pregnancy complications and gynecological disorders. Gynecological conditions accounted for 27.52% of visits, while infectious and general medical conditions dominated at 59.60%, with common presentations including viral fever (22.12%), respiratory infections (17.02%), and scabies (15.65%).

Beyond Teleconsultation: Building a Complete Primary Healthcare Ecosystem
The true impact of Shukhee extends beyond virtual consultations. Through the Shukhee Gram community health model, healthcare is integrated with local follow-up, chronic disease monitoring, and referral support. Among 500 households covering 1,567 community members, women represented 47.42% of the population. Of 233 enrolled patients, 111 women were living with chronic conditions such as hypertension and diabetes. Through continuous physician engagement, remote monitoring, and community follow-up, 77% achieved controlled blood pressure and blood glucose levels—a significant achievement for long-term disease management.
The program also supported seven pregnant women through a structured maternal care pathway, resulting in four successful normal vaginal deliveries under medical supervision. Community monitoring was strengthened through trained link workers and the innovative Sastho Bondhu 6-in-1 device, enabling measurement of blood pressure, blood glucose, ECG, heart rate, lung function, and body temperature at the household level.

Shukhee’s impact also reached patients facing complex illnesses, including ongoing telehealth support for chemotherapy patients requiring continuous symptom monitoring and medication guidance. Together, these results demonstrate that Shukhee is not simply a telemedicine platform—it is an integrated digital primary healthcare ecosystem that connects consultation, diagnostics, referrals, maternal health, chronic disease management, and community-based care to improve health outcomes for women across Bangladesh.
