Head of Communications & Events – Role Description

Independent consultant (5 days per week) – Remote in the UK or EU

About Global Health Connector

Global Health Connector is a global not-for-profit organisation that brings together leaders, innovators and communities to improve health, wellbeing and healthy ageing. We connect people who would not otherwise meet, helping ideas become practical, scalable solutions.

We are moving towards a more sustainable, partnership-driven model. World-class events and clear, compelling communications will be central to growing our impact, profile and income.

The role

We are looking for a commercially minded Head of Communications & Events to lead an integrated global function spanning brand, content, campaigns, partnerships and events. Reporting to the COO, this is a senior leadership role with responsibility for strategy, delivery, team performance and financial results.

You will turn communications and events into engines for impact, audience growth, partnership value and sustainable revenue. You will work closely with the Events Director, Sales & Business Development Lead, Communities & Partnerships Director and Innovation Director, while leading a geographically dispersed team and external suppliers.

  • Position type: Independent consultant, 5 days per week
  • Location: Remote, based in the UK or European Union; Belfast or London preferred
  • Travel: International travel, approximately 10–15%
  • Sector focus: Health & Pharmaceutical, Digital Health, HealthTech and B2B ecosystems

What you will lead

1. Strategy, brand and content

  • Create and lead an integrated communications, marketing and events strategy aligned with GHC’s mission, priorities and commercial goals.
  • Own GHC’s brand narrative, visual identity, tone of voice and editorial direction across all audiences, regions and channels.
  • Lead communications for events, programmes, funded projects, ecosystems, products, memberships and strategic initiatives, from proposition and launch through to ongoing engagement.
  • Build GHC’s thought-leadership platform through authoritative content from leaders, Ambassadors, partners, communities and events.
  • Oversee media relations, executive communications, digital channels, campaigns and key communications materials.

2. Events, audiences and partnerships

  • Design and manage a focused global portfolio of in-person, virtual and hybrid events, with a clear strategic purpose, target audience, commercial model and measures of success.
  • Oversee end-to-end event delivery, including concept, agenda, speakers, production, delegate experience and post-event follow-up.
  • Own audience development, attendee acquisition and event marketing, using data to improve registration, attendance, conversion and engagement.
  • Work with sponsorship, partnership and delivery colleagues to develop compelling partner propositions and ensure all benefits are fulfilled and measured.
  • Maximise the value of events through planned content capture, amplification and conversion into future engagement and partnership opportunities.
  • Evaluate event opportunities and recommend where GHC should lead, partner, participate or decline.

3. Commercial performance and conversion

  • Partner closely with the Sales & Business Development Lead to align communications, marketing and event budgets with overall revenue goals, ensuring efficient cost control and ROI.
  • Collaborate with business development and partnership colleagues to design audience journeys that seamlessly connect interest with opportunities for participation, membership and partnership.
  • Establish and track shared KPIs covering reach, reputation, audience growth, partner value, conversion support and strategic impact.

4. Leadership and operations

  • Lead, develop and prioritise the work of a multidisciplinary, geographically dispersed team across communications, content, design and events.
  • Own the strategy and day-to-day management of GHC’s CRM (Salesforce) to support data integrity, campaigns and pipeline development.
  • Lead the rollout and adoption of workflow and planning tooling (e.g., Notion) across teams to establish clear briefing, approval and execution processes.
  • Manage the organisation’s core digital infrastructure, including websites, domains, hosting and platform access management.
  • Establish clear data governance and compliance practices for marketing and event tech, ensuring alignment with legal, ethical, accessibility and data protection (GDPR) requirements.
  • Proactively evaluate and pilot emerging tools, including AI platforms, to improve workflows, content creation and team efficiency.
  • Commission and manage agencies, designers, venues, production companies and other suppliers, ensuring quality and value for money.
  • Lead internal, crisis and issues communications, and provide regular performance reporting to the Executive Team and Board.

Who we are looking for

  • Significant senior experience leading an integrated communications, marketing, content and events function, ideally in health, technology or a related B2B sector.
  • A record of building or transforming a function, with the energy and judgement to challenge established activity and stop work that adds little value.
  • Strong commercial experience developing audience, content and event models that generate measurable income, leads or partnership value.
  • Excellent editorial judgement and the ability to translate complex health, policy or technology subjects into compelling narratives.
  • International event experience, including working with sponsors, partners, boards, senior stakeholders and high-profile speakers.
  • Confidence moving between strategy and hands-on delivery in a small, resource-conscious organisation.
  • Experience leading cross-cultural remote teams and using data, analytics, and emerging technologies (including AI platforms) to improve operational efficiency.
  • Hands-on experience managing CRM databases (specifically Salesforce), team workspace platforms (such as Notion), and managing website domains/hosting environments.
  • Professional fluency in English; another European language, particularly Spanish, would be an advantage.

What this role offers

  • The opportunity to shape how a global not-for-profit convenes its community, tells its story and builds a more sustainable future.
  • A broad senior mandate at the intersection of health, strategic communications, partnerships and events.
  • Flexible remote working with colleagues and partners across Europe, Asia, the USA and beyond.
